NEW TESTAMENT SALVATION
By: Randy Kea
Please consider some fundamental facts about New Testament salvation:
1. Every accountable person is lost because of sin: “All have sinned” (Romans 3:23), “all the world is guilty (Romans 3:19). “Every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin; and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death” (James 1:14-15), “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). The word death means separation in the Bible. The body separated from the spirit is “dead” physically (James 2:26). Man separated from God because of sin is a state of spiritual “death” (Isaiah 59:1-2).
2. Only the Lord Jesus Christ can save. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6). Peter declares, “Neither is there salvation in any other; for there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)
3. Although Jesus wants all to be saved (Matthew 11:28), He only will save people who obey Him: “He became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey Him…” (Hebrews 5:9) If you believe that Jesus is the Son of God, you need to repent (a change of mind resulting in a change of life) (Acts 2:38; 17:30-31) of every sin, confess with the mouth that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God (Romans 10:9-10; Acts 8:26-39; Matthew 10:32) and be baptized for the “remission of sins” (Acts 2:38; 22:16; Mark 16:16). Bible baptism is a “burial” in water ~ it is immersion. (Acts 8:26-39; Romans 6:1-4; Colossians 2:12).
