Knowing God

KNOWING GOD

 Do you know God?

Let us allow the Bible to answer some important questions about this subject:  Knowing God.

How important is it that we know God?

In His prayer, that He prayed the night before He was crucified, the Lord Jesus prayed:  “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou            hast sent.” (John 17:3).

What will happen to people who do not know God?

Paul clearly indicates the fate of all such:  “Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; and to you who are troubled rest with us, when the              Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and they obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:  Who          shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his power; when he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them        that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.” (II Thessalonians 1:6-10).

What does it mean to know God?

Exactly who knows God and who does not?  The apostle John gives a plain Bible definition of what it means to know God:  “And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his                        commandments.  He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.  But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God                        perfected; hereby know we that we are in him.” (I John 2:3-5).
